The educational program of each student in the West Morris Regional High School District is collaboratively designed to meet their unique needs. Students and their parents work with their school counselor and/or case manager to select courses that fulfill state requirements and support individual learning goals. In order to meet the needs of gifted and talented learners, WMRHSD provides courses at the Honors, AP, and IB levels in addition to options to enroll in college courses or plan for early graduation.
Students may enroll in Honors level classes in grades 9 and 10, Advanced Placement courses in grades 10, 11, and 12, and enroll in an International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) in grades 11 and 12. WMRHSD offers both the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) and the International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme (CP). Both IB DP and IB CP include instruction in Math, Science, History/Social Science, World Language, and/or Language Arts, as well as electives in Business, Music, Art, and Design Technology. Both IB Programmes also include core courses that promote critical thinking, research, and ways of knowing.
Any individual who believes that the district has not complied with the provisions in the law or administrative code related to gifted and talented services may file a complaint with the Board of Education. The complaint shall be submitted in writing to the board office. The Chief School Administrator or designee shall take the necessary actions to correct or remediate the complaint and report such actions to the Board. The Board shall issue a decision, in writing, to affirm, reject, or modify the district’s action in the matter.
If the complaint is not resolved to the individual’s satisfaction or the individual is not satisfied by the written decision of the Board, the individual may then file a petition of appeal of the board’s written decision to the Commissioner of Education through the Office of Controversies and Disputes in accordance with law (N.J.S.A. 18A:6-9) and the procedures set forth in State Board of Education regulations. This complaint policy shall be linked to the homepage of the board’s website.
